With Summer coming to a close and Fall just around the corner, South County Outreach is asking for volunteers to join us. Fall is a busy time of the year for us, with the weather turning a bit cooler and clients visiting our pantry and utilizing our services, we have a greater need for volunteers. On average, we have 250 volunteers a week in our food pantry, walking clients, sorting donations and stocking shelves. In addition to the pantry, we have about 20 volunteers, who work at our front desk. The front desk volunteers greet our clients and guests, assist with paperwork and provide direction to our services. We, also, have a need for volunteers in our thrift store, who can assist with sales, donations and stocking the store. If you have interested in learning more about volunteering, please contact Brittan Zamora, our Volunteer Manager, volmgr@sco-oc.org or by calling our offices. She will be able to help you get signed up at one or all of our volunteer opportunities.
For those who are unable to volunteer in-person, we can help set up a food drive for your office, place of worship, neighborhood, club or service organization. We provide barrels that can be delivered and picked up from a location in South Orange County. In addition to the barrel, we will provide flyers on South County Outreach and the needs for our pantry. This is a great opportunity to include people who cannot come into our offices, panty or thrift store to get involved and support us.
With all the hours our volunteers commit to our organization, we are one more step closer to ending hunger and housing hope.
Since 1989, South County Outreach has been providing hunger- and homelessness-prevention services to low-income individuals and families in crisis. South County Outreach helps the under-employed and the unemployed reach self-sufficiency by providing the following services: food pantry, rapid rehousing, utility and rental assistance, homelessness prevention counseling, computer training and clothing from our Upscale Resale thrift store. Monthly South County Outreach assists more than 2,000 local residents in need.
