Coto de caza
Coto de Caza is one of Orange County’s oldest planned communities. Coto de Caza means “Preserve of the Hunt”, or “Hunting Preserve” in Spanish. Coto de Caza is the only guard gated community in Orange County to contain two entire Golf Courses, two country clubs and an Equestrian Center. In 1983, Orange County approved Coto’s master plan for a community of custom homes, and three years later, the community officially opened.
In 1984, Arvida, Disney, Chevron, and City Federal Savings & Loan partnered in the development of Coto de Caza. The community has grown to over 16,000 residents and has some of the highest value residences in all of Orange County ranging from one million to 21 million dollars. The most notable estate is a 200-acre property owned by General William Lyon, which contains a helicopter pad once used in a visit by former President Ronald Reagan.
